The Tried & True Floating Herring Blob Rig, since my early days of fishing in the south coast these types of floating rigs have been the go-to for bait fishing for Herring (Tommy Rough). 
A solid hard plastic floating blob with a hole that allows you to pack in your favourite burley mix when the Hezza's are boiling up! Cast it out and wait for the float to disappear when your hooked up!
 
The Float is rigged between 2 swivels which follow a mainline down to 2 x 1/0 hooks which will drift just below the surface once baited.
